石田衣良（Ishida Ira） 1960年出生于东京，成蹊大学经济系毕业。曾任职日本广告公司，并以自由文案工作者活跃于业界。 1997年以《池袋西口公园》获得小说杂志《ALL读物》第36届推理小说新人奖，同作品于2000年改编成日剧，由长濑智也、洼冢洋介、妻夫木聪、山下智久等人担纲主演，成为2000年日本最受欢迎的剧集。其作品题材广泛，包括青春小说、经济犯罪悬疑小说，以及爱情小说等。 《池袋西口公园》一书于1997年出版后，旋即登上日贩畅销书籍排行榜第一名的宝座，此后一路攻占连续剧、漫画领域，甚至影响日本新一代的精神层面，以“IWGP”的旗帜在青少年间引起一股热潮。 2001年的《娼年》及2002年的《骨音》（“池袋西口公园”之三）分别入围126届及128届直木奖，2003年以《十四岁》（4TEEN）获第129届直木奖。
